ItalyNormandy 2009 - Important news for vehicle owners and Re-enactors
"Normandy Mémoire" A Charter for the direction for the use of participants of vehicle collectors and historical re-enactors.
As preparations for the 65th anniversary of the Normandy Landings in 2009 gear up, there has been considerable interest in the presence of the thousands of military vehicle owners and re-enactors who will come to the region next June.
Normandy Mémoire is the official organization overseeing the 2009
events and on May 28th 2008 the Charter was signed by M. BART, Préfet
de Calvados, and Admiral BRAC de la PERRIERE, Président of the
Normandy Mémoire association who issued the following press release.
Beside the normal means of telling the history of the landings and Battle for Normandy, groups and associations of collectors and historical re-enactors take part, in their own way, to remember the battles and those that liberated the area during this major episode during the Second World War
In the interest of the public which participate within these events and of the many collectors and re-enactors of which take part in Lower Normandy at the time of the celebrations related to the memory of the events of June 6, 1944 and of the battle of Normandy - whether they be an association or a group made up or independent - it is abundantly clear to remind the same, the contents of the law and certain regulations and standards of behavior to ensure the good standing of this act of remembrance.
All re-enactment associations and groups have to ensure that they
are known to the respective communes where they are to be lodged. All
displays have to be authorised by the relevant authorities and battle
re-enactments can only be authorised by the Regional Prefect's Office
in Caen.
Prior arrangements for use of sites must be obtained by the respective
owners of the sites in writing before the event. All permissions obtained
must be retained and provided upon request by the Police, Gendarmerie
Nationale or Douanes upon request.
All details pertaining to the display/re-enactments have to be agreed
by the respective town halls prior to their arrival in France.
Use of uniforms is permitted outside of battle or historic re-enactment
areas but not with firearms.
The charter was discussed in July of 2008 and Liberation Task
Force France came up with a 15 page report on the pros and cons
of such a document. As in 2004, Liberation Task Force
is co-ordinating the activities of all the military vehicle and re-enactment
groups and is contracted by Normandie Memoire to ensure that everyone's
participation adheres to the charter and that it is an enjoyable and beneficial
experience to all who are involved.
Liberation Task Force is working directly with French Customs,
The Gendarmerie and all the regional government agencies.
It is essential that ALL vehicle owners and re-enactors understand
and adhere to the Charter.
